PERSONAL TRAINING FAQ's

What will I gain with personal training with Sian?
Working one to one with Sian who has extensive knowledge in all areas of fitness and years of experience will guide you towards your specific goals, personalising exercise to suit you as a person. If you have ever wanted to drop weight, gain muscle, have more energy or enhance your physical performance, then a Personal Trainer may be just what you need. In addition to delivering an effective exercise programme and motivating you, a PT will also look at lifestyle issues and nutrition that contribute to making your exercise programme even more effective.

Do I need to be fit to start Personal Training?
Nope! That’s the great thing. Using a Personal Trainer is a highly effective way to get fit in the first place. Whilst athletes and professional sports people often use a PT, it is not necessary to be in top condition to start with. Each person is unique so have their own personal challenges to conquer, whether it’s running for a bus or running a marathon.

How many sessions do I need to book in?
I would recommend new clients to stay with me for 12 weeks, especially if you’ve tried doing exercise alone before and never stuck to it. Doing one session a week including following the plans set in between will give us enough time to cover all the material you need to know to be independently exercising with your own personalised fitness programme and see big results. I have clients that I’ve been working with for years who just love the sessions and the continuous motivation and guidance. But there’s no reason why you can’t book in for 4 sessions and still get everything you need from me to continue your fitness journey alone.

How often do I need to come?
Most people do weekly sessions, but you can book 2 or 3 sessions per week if you want. Personally I think 1 session per week is enough, you will be given plans to follow in the times you are not seeing me to support your fitness journey. If its a fortnightly or one off sessions you want please contact me directly.

Where do sessions take place?
In the comfort of your own home online or in person if local. If you are booking in for a face to face session then please contact me directly.

What should I wear?
Wear whatever you want. As long as you feel comfortable (probably not high heels and a summer dress). Loose fitting clothing would be best.

Am I too old for this?
I’ve trained many people from many ages and there is not an age limit to getting started on your fitness journey. As we age our bodies change but that will all be assessed on your first appointment.

What is the cost?
See the plans and pricing page or get in contact.

It's far more expensive than joining a gym though is it worth it it?
It is cheaper to join a gym of course and that’s fine if you’re self motivated and that’s what you want. Many people join the gym with all intention of using it but never do, either because of lack of motivation, low fitness or lack of confidence on how to use equipment. Or it could be you don’t want to be around people exercising until you know what you’re doing. A block of PT sessions may seem like a sizeable financial outlay, however you will learn how to exercise without a gym with minimal equipment.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you wish to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask for at least 24 hours notice. A session can be cancelled or rescheduled, however cancellations / rescheduling with less than 24 hours notice will usually incur the full session fee. This is a standard fitness industry cancellation policy. The monthly subscription can be cancelled at any time, if you’ve done 8 weeks and feel you’re ready to go alone then you can cancel the next month. If you’ve already started a month and change your mind after one or two sessions then usually the rest of the month will not be refunded, but it depends on the circumstances.

I’m extremely overweight or obese, will I be ok?
Of course, you’ll be in good hands. I’ve worked with all shapes and sizes and all are welcome. Whatever your starting point, range of movement or exercise level, we can work together to get to you goal. If you are on any medication please seek advice from the doctor before proceeding with your first session.
Will it hurt?
Perhaps! If you are returning to exercise after an extended break or have never formally exercised, sometimes you might feel muscle soreness. However stretching and nice warm baths can alleviate this discomfort. I do not believe in ‘no pain no gain’, but it is natural for muscles to feel a little tender when you push yourself harder than you are used to. It’s a sign of progress as your body adapts to exercise and gets stronger. The first fitness session is the easiest, and each session gets more difficult. This allows your body to adapt as you to get used to exercising a bit harder.

How do I book in?
Follow the bookings page for more information and to book.

Can I book for just one session?
We offer a free trail session! Once this has been completed, I do recommend booking in for 12 sessions as that’s usually the amount of time it takes to form a habit. The first session is getting to know your fitness levels and finding a plan that will help you to achieve your goals week to week. If it is just one session you need then contact me to discuss payment.

Can I do a trial session?
I am more than happy to do a free trial to get a taste of what to expect and answer any further concerns before committing. This trial session will last approximately 20 minutes. That's enough time for you to see how it feels and answer any questions you might have.
